Forums and Conflicts 101: Our Forum Policy
Post By JVCA. 10/08/09, 01:55 pm

Conflict will naturally occur between people when so many of them congregate into one place – but that doesn’t mean everybody needs to see it. We're not saying you can't discuss your issues with another member (we may censor swear words, but we're not THAT censorship crazy Wink), but we do ask that you do it politely or privately. Unfortunately, when a conflict is posted about in a public domain the issue won’t necessarily end once it has been resolved, as others often accidentally reopen the wound by bringing it up again and taking sides. sweatdrop

To reiterate, please keep your arguments away from the public forum where people not involved with the issue have to see (and especially not in threads where people have to look past all the arguing in order to find on topic posts! n_n; )

Anyone who insists on arguing in public in a tone that is not civil will be warned. Smile

Furthermore, if you see a conflict that is getting out of hand, or any kind of post that is making you feel uncomfortable in any way, shape, or form (whether it is directed at you or someone else) - report it! At the top right of each post is a Forums and Conflicts 101: Our Forum Policy Icon_post_report icon you can use to report an individual post to the moderators, without having to PM someone. All reports are 100% confidential, so you have nothing to fear if you're worried about retribution for 'telling'. Our highest priority on here is our member's safety, and that includes emotional safety. If it worries you, we'll handle it. It's what we're here for. chuu~!

i think what the main problems have been caused by is people being pushed off the forums and continuing their conflicts, not with the people/other person involved, but with a third party.
things get very confused if a conflict between more than two people has to be resovled privately.
this is the Chinese whisper effect that has been covered before.
we have seen several examples of this within the CCC in the past week.

what i, and several other people, would like to know, is what sort of medium is available for this kind of conflict, which seems to be exascerbated by private messages and abhorred from forums?

thanks. (:

I encourage people to make threads directly about the issue and persue it with maturity. So long as they stop being as low as to make petty remarks about the person they have an issue with in random threads, I see no issue. So long as they're truly trying to reconcile their differences, I see no issue.

But if they're just whining & winding everyone else up, they can take it elsewhere.

Though this is my opinion and I'm not speaking on behalf of all the mods. I'm sure we will try to come up with a group opinion on it in the next few days.

thanks, Duckeh.
that makes sense.
i figured threads like that would be considered too conflictual, but if other mods agree with you on this, it seems like a fair and much less...underhanded (for want of a better word) way of sorting out differences.

If things are out in the open and people are able to explain their side and the people listening have an open mind things would work out much better

I agree with Duckeh on the maturity thing
We want to be the group of around 650 New Zealand can be proud of ^^

Agreed with Duckeh - I'm all for civil discussion, but the moment it turns to petty slander and antagonistic commentary, I'll be in there with my hammer waving.

Example of good discussion: "_________, it frustrates me some times that you keep going off-topic. It makes it very hard to find information in this thread - would you mind taking it elsewhere?"

Example of bad discussion: "Oh for gods sake would you shut up already about your damn cookies!? We're trying to work something out here and your useless sugar honey iced tea spamming is a total pain in the ass!"

The latter is a bit of an extreme example (and these examples aren't exactly relevant to the current issues), but you get the general idea. ;D

As long as it's polite, then by all means, go ahead. :) "Politely or Privately" - that's the motto here. nyahaha

Once you have done something, it cannot be undone.

There are unfortunately no save points in real life.
Pay attention to what you are saying, think as to how it may affect those around you, if you are in doubt, or irritated, is what you are going to post something you will end up regretting later?
We as a community are larger than we once were, and I suspect many of these "Conflicts" could be avoided if we all just payed a bit more attention to ourselves, and those around us.
In simple terms, be considerate and be tolerant.
And at the end of the day, if you dont like someone, just ignore them.

I also suspect that it might be worth while to have a separate sub forum for user complaints or conflict resolution. I hope it wont get much use, but I have seen it done before.

I was actually thinking about that yesterday~ But we are very reluctant to give out subforums.
