Xena: Warrior Princess By sakura_petals. 05/08/09, 09:42 am |
| Ok so somehow we got started on the topic of Xena/Gabrielle in HyperBusterAngel's intro post. I have the entire series on DVD and just have to say that throughout the series it's been stated that they are just very good friends - not lovers or anything like that. I mean having travelled together and been through everything that they went through together would have to make them very close (apart from the time that Hope, Gabrielle's daughter, killed Solan, Xena's son, for revenge). I know that Xena has a huge gay fan base and I respect that.
So what do you guys think of the series in general and the relationship between Xena and Gabrielle? |

| Cyren: so you believe that because people have other relationships that means they're not in love with another person? wow, doesn't seem very like you at alllll. o-o ps. nice cover with the sarcasm thing. i'ma stay true to my feelings.
as for the series; i find Xena to be hilarious in a good way. and tbh, Xena and Gabrielle was half my reason for watching. just for the lulzy innuendo/meaningful glances in every episode. <3 i think the hint of a relationship was always supposed to be there - as much to promote gay rights as anything. i honestly think it was completely deliberate. same with Hercules. |

| Please keep the personal stuff personal. There was the innuendo, not in every episode but there are a few that spring to mind later in the series (one that involves washing each others backs). I think that early on it just happened and then when the producers realised that it brought more viewers they added more of it in.
The best thing I loved from the series was waiting for the end of the credits for the fake/funny disclaimers that almost always related to the theme of the episode. |

| it's just 'cause i've known him for four years now and it's not something i'd expect to hear, that's all. (:
favourite part: soundtrack. soo fitting and soo funny. the disclaimers were good too. and the weapons/outfits were fun for a giggle. and yes, the possibility of lesbianism was obviously a huge rating boost for the show. which is why i think it was completely deliberate, and despite never being confirmed, it was always meant to be hinted at. i think the same thing was realised with Hercules, the whole: "no other man will ever love you as i do, Hercules!" and such. it's a gimmick, but a funny one when done right.

| Definitely deliberate innuendo! I distinctly remember shooting You Are There and the closing scene (you can see me a couple of table back right between Xena and Gabs- strangely amused by some bread... with the worst Leia/Brunhilda buns ever ;) ) and it was described by the AD in a way that made it clear this was meant to be a teaser ;)
There was always supposed to be an intense friendship from series one though. |

| Can't remember Xena much, really can't say much about whether Xena and Gabs were crushing towards each other. But even if they were, don't mind. But kind of thought that it might be a joke or a laugh between fans because Xena was always saving Gabs like a hero in distress kind of thing.. But maybe the witters could of been serious in actually hinting that these two had a closer relationship than just friendship...
But the programme was still cool no matter what. Always used to toss a hairband across the room and yell out loud like Xena used too...^^'' [Fails xD] |

There was always supposed to be an intense friendship from series one though. I'm going to have to get that episode out and watch it!! It'd be awesome to see someone I vaguely know IRL (not just SS stars). |

| There are 6 seasons in total but each season is broken into 2 cases with 3 DVDs each - that's a lot of Xena! It took me a while to complete but I got there in the end with the bonus find of the beginnings of the role of Xena in the Hercules episodes. So I now have the entire life of Xena!! |

Re: Xena: Warrior Princess By Highlander. 06/08/09, 01:51 pm |
| Previously I have only seen the series in two parts per season. But I finally got series 3-6 in a fatpack per series, 6 discs each. It is region 2 and 4 PAL. Don't ask me where it comes from, I got them off trade me.
I must say I much prefer seasons on and two, not so much 5 or 6, though of course they are still very Xena.
And prefer Gabby to Xena, but like Xena too. Disappointing to see Renee O'Conner not in much good stuff. Though would have expected Lucy Lawless in more good stuff too. |

| I like Gabby better than Xena too! Do you refer to Renee in shows other than Xena? Or just her role in the Xena series? |

| I take it you meant later in the series? With sort hair and costumes? She she did grow as a character quite a lot during the course of the series. |

Yes, I saw her in B grade movie. I know she has done several. Lucy has done stage, and something else? Plus a family.

Personally I like sweat season 1 gabby with the long hair. The later seasons were more sexy and kick ass. It was good to see her less dependent and wanting to save Xena from time to time. |

| Renee is married with a little girl, plus she's a more behind the scenes person (directing mainly). I liked her longer hair but liked her attitude more in the later seasons - just wish both could have been combined. But it was a very dramatic episode in which she started her extreme changes (the Indian arc). |
