Sooo, whatchu reading? By Kei. 13/06/08, 02:01 pm |
| Tell us what mangas you're reading at the moment, what you're following up on, how awesome they are, etc. It's a good way for others to pick up new series to read (or froth over? -shrugs-).
So I went to pick up my requested item at the library on my way home the other day and I came across Eternal Sabbath. Which the back of the book describes as a person called Ryosuke Akiba created out of the highly advanced ES gene, who has the ability to dive into other people's minds and mix around with their thoughts/memories/brain/whatever, who is paired up with a female, Mine Kujo, to track down another person who is just like Ryosuke except he seems to weld his powers for evil. Up to there the first thing that popped into my head was, "Death Note?". Dunno why, they're not the same, but it just did. Probably the premise sounded the same. Uber scary power at one's disposal.
So after reading Vol. 1 I must say it's a nice series at this point, I'm digging around for the other books now. The intro was good, shows the guy with the mindpowarz waltzing around displaying his powers to the readers and explaining what he's capable of (making complete strangers think of him as a friend, having his way with everything etc) and then doing some good deeds with them which catches the eyes of our main female lead, some background and character developments later on, and then it ends when the reader is told there's a dangerous person out there with the same uber mindpowers. I liked the illustrations, it caught my eye, how well emotions and feelings are illustrated when the Ryosuke guy jumps into people's minds and plays around with it or interprets them.
And I'm also reading/following Naruto, School Rumble, Nabari no Ou, Sorcerers & Secretaries, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, Minami-ke, FMA, and Yotsuba&!. |

| You know i would really really reccomend reading a bit of elemental gelade and rave master.
They are really worthwhile mangas. Although elemental gelade has a bit of nudity in it, which may or may not be suitable for a four year old -points at your apparent age- but i still really really recommend it
As for me, a good healthy diet of inuyasha, bleach, naruto, and fma =D just the classics right now. |

| At the moment I am only following one of many
1. Re:Play - The most best manga ever!!! I really recommend reading it, even if it is by an american author. I love all Christy Lijewski's works after her entry "Doors" in the Tokyopop rising stars comp. I really adore her art, which is influenced by Tite Kubo, but yet has a style of it's own.
A punk rock band named Faust faces a huge setback after Ed, their bassist, leaves to join another band. Cree Winter, a young female who sings in Faust, is roaming around the streets at night when she comes upon a guitarist who was playing a somber song on his bass. Cree convinces him to join Faust as their new bassist. Problem? He can't remember who he is or where he came from, so she names him Izack and takes him home to the her brother Rail's (Faust's guitarist) disgust. It progresses to Izack has a strange secret and . Not to mention there are a pair of strangers watching him. When Izack and Cree start to develop feelings for each other, everything goes wrong (My advice? Go read et!~)
I am also reading Oyayubihime Infinity, Crimson Hero, The Devil Does Exist and anything that I think looks interesting |

I just like the name. It sounds cool XD |

| Currently reading Bleach, Gantz, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, Soul Eater and Hellsing. Also currently annoyed at Bleach and Gantz for their inability to progress the plot in a nice fluid manner. I mean, everything just seems to drag on so much (although I will admit this current arc in Bleach has been very awesome, Gantz on the other hand is still pretty much where it was last year which is the same freaking mission, granted they are now fighting the boss of it, but they've killed it 4 freaking times already and it's still not completely dead, it's like freaking Szayel Apollo) |

| Kei: I read the first volume too! 0_0 I thought of Death Note too when I read the back. Though I didn't reaaaly enjoy the manga...
I'm only following one manga right nao. *watches anime more than reads manga*
And that manga is DOGS.
Realllllly great manga about four totally different people who live in a (rather) twisted Italy, whos lives begin to cross. There's Mihai, the lovely old dude wiith a past that he can't forget. Naoto, the main female character with the disturbing past and who nao is wandering in search of someone. Haine, the white-haired boy who has been a guinea pig to the 'Cerberus' gene experiment and his partner Badou, who works with together with him as bounty hunters.
<3 Then there's adorably evil twins, mute people, bullets and carnage and moooore~
A definate must read~ It's not really well known but well worth your time ^-^
Oh, And I just finished reading the TWEWY two-shot manga. Very surprised at how they condensed it... And not verrrrry happy 'bout it either =.= |

Hell no. If you ask me, it's just getting into it. With the introduction of another Noah and all.
I'm currently trying to stay up with (or have been reading in the past wee-while)
D.Gray-Man - Up to the latest chapter unless one came out this weekend. Trinity Blood - Some chapter around volume 10 xD. Loveless - Chapter ... I forgot where they are up to, but the most recent one.
And series I've read recently:
The Day I Become A Butterfly (IT'S NOT FREAKIN' YAOI! False advertising will make people not want to read it!! D;< ) Kingdom Hearts II volume 2 I bought DGM volume 9~ And I think I read it too xD. MeruPuri RahXephon (Lulz, it's so stupid xD) And I think that's it. |

| I'm nearly finished with Dramacon.
It's kind of interesting seeing a series, not only written by a Westerner, but one that couldn't really have been written by anyone but. The issues and stuff brought up are distinctly dealt with in Western-anime culture.
I'm so sick of the fish eyes though- how can she not look at the faces and say, 'Okay, maybe I need to push the eyes a little closer together,"? It's almost as if she writes it off as being okay because it's anime, which is kind of anti- what the book's message is trying to get across. |

| The facial expressions annoy me enough in that series for me to not want to read it. I don't really like American-made manga. It's stupid. Like Last Hope. That was mentioned above. It's stupid. And I'm just mean xD.
Manga I have on order:
The Demon Ororon complete collection Demon Flowers volumes 1, 2 and 3. .hack//G.U.+ volume 2. Gothic and Lolita Bible volume 2 ;D Not really manga, but same thing really xD. It's released by a manga company! I'm a G&LB orderer for my two lolita friends xD.

Re: Sooo, whatchu reading? By Katie. 17/06/08, 10:54 am |
| Yeah, the thing that gets me about some Western manga is that they use really, really dated stereotypes to base their style around- if you take a look at what Japanese manga are popular (especially here) now, there's a very distinct style that mostly has correct anatomy throughout the face and body. The art of Naruto, Tengen Toppa, etc is almost faultless, if stylized.
So wryyyy do people have to just believe that all anime has terrible proportions and gigantic eyes and no concern for actual anatomical structure? It's one gigantic stereotype. D:
That said, I love Avatar. xD And I firmly believe a Westerner will make a really nice (aesthetically) manga someday, it just won't look like it came out of the 90s. |

| Also Ameican manga has the crapiest, annoying-as-hell screen tones -___-.
Avatar's okay. I've seen like ... Six episodes xD. *has the first two seasons, but haven't watched them >___>* |

| Avatar's style isn't perfect when it starts out, but it develops amazingly over the series to the later episodes where it's just amazing.
It's kind of weird comparing Avatar eps to Naruto, pacing-wise. I sometimes just start screaming at the telly, 'Just freaking hit him already! It's not like he's going anywhere!' during the latter. |

| At the moment I'm reading Vampire Knight, and I gotta say it is hecka AWESOME. I'm so addicted to it. The anime's not as good though, I think their rushing it way too fast and trying to squeeze everything in. >__< Yuuki being a vampire gave me a huge surprise, I didn't even expect that too happen.

| I own Vampire Knight manga 1-5 >;3.
And I've read the rest online. I haven't seen much of the anime xD.
Today/yesterday? I read:
xxxholic volume 11 and Rozen Maiden volume 1. That was yesterday.
And today I read Sugar Sugar Rune volume 3.
It's really funny. My science teacher just doesn't notice when we don't do work. So now me and my friend just sit there either drawing or reading manga. That's what I did yesterday and today. And so I read those thre volumes of manga which my friend lent me. And I didn't have to take them home xD. |

| *Kyaa!!* You have the Vampire Knight manga :D Lol, I so wish I could do that at school. I bought my manga to school once, and all the people were staring at me strangly. O____O Probably because nobody reads manga or watches anime at my school. XD I'm reading Chapter 19 of Shugo Chara right now, and I'm hoping to find some new anime that's good enough to make me keep reading it. ^___^ |
