Cosplay Supplies Wellington

Okay, I just thought this could be a database where people recorded local fabric shops, craft shops, and shops that just had stuff that was useful to build props etc. If you don't think this is a good idea, then by all means tell me so :3 Please contribute your favourite shops, and their adresses, so that we can locate them. Or, directions are good too~

Fabric stores:

Spotlight (Porirua) 9 Tutu Place, Porirua
Spotlight (Wellington) 120 Hutt Road, Kaiwharawhara, Wellington
Fabric Warehouse 25 Hutt Road, Pipitea, Wellington
Global Fabrics 15 Garrett Street, Wellington, Wellington
Arthur Toye 56 Willis Street, Wellington, Wellington
Sherezard Level 2, 226 Lambton Quay, Wellington, Wellington

Arts and Graphics stores (recommended for props):

Gordon Harris 170 Victoria Street, Te Aro, Wellington

I think... You might need to break Auckland up a bit... It'll get much too chaotic...

How about..

Central, East, West, North, South?

I will, but as I'm a Wellingtonian born and bred I know almost nothing of Auckland :p. I'll take that on board though.

I have an odd feeling we have a thread like this already ...

Add Goldings to the list. I don't know the exact street/address, but there's one in Kakaldies and then there's another one in a street parallel to the upper end of Cuba Street. It's a shop like Gorden Harris with things for sewing too, but I don't think they stock actual material, but they do have ribbon and such.

And The French Art Shop (is that its actual name? IDK xDD) is another art shop. It's on Ghuznee Street.

*cough cough* http://forum.cosplay.co.nz/auckland-cosplayers-f6/cosplay-supplies-auckland-t728.htm

There was one for welly, but I think it was butchered in the great pruning accident, so I shall convert this to a welly one and sticky it for you. n_n;

EDIT: No, sorry, there was one for chch, not welly. Not sure where that is now though...

No worries - they're useful topics to have, and there wasn't a welly one anyway, so it all works out well. Very Happy

Evans's: 226 High Street, Lower Hutt
Goldings: 17 Marion Street (can be accessed via either Vivian or Ghuznee) and I think everyone knows where Kirks is...
And the French Art place is like 60 on Ghuznee St. It seems to have a larger selection of paints/markers than GH.
There's also a fabrics place in the BNZ centre, but I can't remember it's name.

Uh, Statue Bargain Barn up in Paraparaumu usually has remnant rolls of fabric, second hand clothing, a big barrel of ugly buttons and other junk that someone may find useful. Oh, and heaps of old patterns.
(It's across the railway tracks at the Mobil station, left at the church and then right at the school.)

I'd also like to add that any large hardware store of preference will usually have the dowel/tubing/chain/glue/sandpaper that you're looking for.

It does? I had NO IDEA?!!!!?!?!

But if we're listing up that far, Fibre Flair in the main drag in Waikane. Its mostly craft rather than dressmaking, but they have all sorts of great stuff.

Could also be worth mentioning second hand clothing places, either for closest cosplays, or to butcher and remake an outfit.

I know of:
Salvation Army - spread around Wellington
Rebound Clothing - Petone
SaveMart - Wingate (Lower Hutt), and Upper Hutt.
Theres also a smaller place next to Pizza Hutt (/Warehouse) in Johnsonville possibly called Tony's or something that does second hand clothing. Not 100% on the name of it tho.

Edit: Place in J'ville is Vinnies.

And the Recycled Boutique on Cuba - right up at the Real Groovy end.
And Paper Bag Princess (nothing over $20) on Left Bank - up past Satay Kingdom of the cheap food!

It's been a couple of years since I've been there but almost no one touches the patterns since they're all unorganised and from the 70's. The fabric is what no one wants so generally they stick around... and the last time I noticed the barrel, it was half full.

Back on topic, there's also a Rebound outlet store in Taita/Wingate.
The secondhand place that is/was near Farmer's on Cuba is also HELLISHLY expensive. Mind you, I think they sort through to find the good stuff.
