Realistic vampire makeup?
Post By LithiumCrystal. 26/02/09, 03:17 pm

Ok, since I'm going as Alucard to Armageddon, I want to make my skin even whiter than it is now (ugh) but I'm sick of all the "how to" guides who keep saying vampires should look sickly.

Does Alucard look sickly to you?

I might be channelling a Twilighter here, but I kind of think that vamps should be pale, but pretty. Not sickly. God knows I usually look sick anyway. <.<;

So I was wondering if anybody knows how, or knows a guide that will teach me to make my skin that eerie, perfect porcelain colour that I think we all know vampires should have (not just stupid Edward-bloody-Cullen!)

Body glitter. Oh come on, you saw that coming.

Umm... I'm no makeup expert, but I'm guessing concealer for any/all blemishes, then use a pale liquid foundation (liquid is better for colour purposes, as it's thicker and more consistant than powder) - then to make sure you get the inhuman perfectly matte skin look, use a powder foundation on top of that?

Hahaha, as I said, my experience with makeup is limited. >.> Thought - look up doll makeup? People who cosplay as dolls will want the porcelain skin look, so that might be a possible research avenue?

might be a good idea to invest in makeup which also lightens skin tone ... though i cant really use myself as an example as im pretty pale ... i think ... but i use a makeup that makes my skin look whiter ... though im really still a noob at makeup ... and as jvca said ... powder is also good

Good ideas guys. I probably don't NEED to be any more pale than I am, it's just the eerie part. Doll makeup might give me an idea of what to do, though. ^_^

Goth makeup Razz No seriously, I asked a while back about white makeup, and I was pointed towards http://www.thornapple.co.nz/, where they have makeup that makes you look really pale. I bought the Ben Nye Special White for my Cain Nightroad cosplay, and it worked really well for that pale vampire look :)

Surprised I got my fangs and contacts from them~ I think I'll get that stuff you mentioned, because if it was good enough for one kind of vampire, then it's good enough for another!

Yes goth shops are the perfect place to get make up for the vampire look. If ya cant get what you want from the other store you can try here http://www.sinister.co.nz I got there a lot myself, been a bit of a goth at heart and their stuff is really good, give you the perfect pale effect without looking fake.

I'm just reading Dracula (again, for about the 10th time) and yeah, the vamps of mythology (before they become cool they were vile) were sickly and "unwholesome"* looking ;)

But go by your particular source ;) Modern vamps tend to be pretty. Except those in the Buffyverse. At least when they are in full vamp mode.

*Gotta love 19thC writing.

But Dracula only looks sickly at first when he's in his old man form. When he gets to drink blood, not only does he start to become younger, he looks healthier. I think if vamps always looked sick, it'd kind of blow their cover. Technically, I AM playing Dracula... Because that's who Alucard is, but he's very well-fed, so he's always young and healthy looking.

... Except when Anderson cuts his head off. Yeah...

I picked up some makeup from a shop here in chch called Minifies. The makeup I was told is for use on stage called 'tv white' which is great, it evens my skin tone to a believable pale shade without looking like a halloween mask. As such it is not a pure white but a very pale flesh tone. Bonus it doesn't rub off and is quite safe with dark material.

As to Alucards skin tone, looking at the cover of the manga right infront of me, he looks pale but not night of the living dead pale. More a human tone pale.
