URL change?

| When I get the new layout up - hopefully in the near future - can we have our forums in some way linked to the cosplay.co.nz domain name? I know that it is possible. :)
The way I see it, we could have~
forums.cosplay.co.nz
or
www.cosplay.co.nz/forums
Yes/no? :3

| mmm, not too sure if www.cosplay.co.nz/forums would work, would have to check the iis options where the cosplay.co.nz site is hosted. It is possible the host could an iis header to do the redirection to that url, but cuz forumotion is an external site, dunno...
Id need to check on forums.cosplay.co.nz unless someone knows off the top of their head (JP  ). Prolly need to register it as a separate...
If no one has an answer by Monday, Ill take a look when I get into work...
I have a bookmark directly to the forum, but I can see that if the cosplay site were regularly updated to attract newbs, it would be good to have a direct link on it 
Perhaps just a nice pic or somesuch labeled cosplay forums with a link here? |

forums.cosplay.co.nz would be a subdomain of cosplay.co.nz, which I belive is free, or at least cheap to add. It should be no issue to have that subdomain load this and simply mask as the domain....I used to do it with the free .tk pages and freewebs sites all the time. |

| | Yes. It's just a subdomain. Normally when you host a domain you can specific whatever records you like for it. In this case it would just be an A record on the cosplay.co.nz domain. |

What I would love to to do with the main cosplay.co.nz site is have two big red buttons on it - one for "click here to go to the forums" and another for "click here for more info about cosplay in NZ". Then there'd be basic pages like ACP/what is cosplay/who are we etc.
and I knew SOMEONE would vote for me to shut up.

| Yeah, once you own the domain you can host as many domains under that if you want.
cosplay.co.nz is the actual domain.
www.cosplay.co.nz is a subdomain using an A record.
my gallery site is the same.
of.geek.nz is the actual domain.
gallery.of.geek.nz is a subdomain using an A record.
You can also have sub sub domains aswell.
It's just an entry in the DNS providers config, pretty simple to do, and you can point it to another server without a problem. ie: still have forumotion.com servers, but the forums.cosplay.co.nz points to their servers, whilst www.cosplay.co.nz stays hosted where it is. |

Yeah, the temptation was too great for my weak will.
JP knows his stuff better than I do, since I've never owned a domain myself. It should be dead simple to set up though, no matter who you are with for hosting. |

I used to own a domain quite a while ago and dabbled in php etc, but most of my knowledge for all that has disappeared. So yeah - [bows down to jp].
