Wig newblet needs syling halp
Post By creature124. 19/10/08, 02:20 pm

Okay, wig status. It has arrived, and i tried it on. Its itchy as hell, but ill live.

I need styling advice. I'm a total wig newb.

Wig newblet needs syling halp Kunisaki_yukito Wig newblet needs syling halp Th_wigv1 <---Clickable for fullsize.

After quick a bit of flicking fake hair around, I managed to get the wig the way it is in that picture, and I can't say I'm particularly happy with the results. Crap picture too, but that irrelevant. I'm thinking this is gonna need alot of hairspray on the day(s).

Question: Best thing for keeping wig styled? Hairspray, gel, what? I have no idea.

Also, styling tips. While that isn't really bad, it isn't great either. Is there some way i can style it (and have it stay that way) that will make it be a bit closer to my reference picture?

All advice/CONSTRUCTIVE criticism is welcomed.

Two things:

Wig caps are your friends! Get yourself a wig cap and it makes wearing wigs easier. Unless, of course, you already have a wig cap xD

Also, Got2Be Glued (or whatever the name is) is a godsend. I know that much xD

Eh, the wig has some kind of cap thing on the inside, but I don't know if that is what you mean.

And where might I acquire this magic substance?

Wig cap = an extra piece you wear to hold your natural hair up and out of the way. Also makes securing the wig easier. Can usually get them for $2 or so.

*shrug* Hairstores? Warehouse? TradeMe?

hmm, my hair is short enough that it probably won't be an issue, as long as I am a little bit careful with the placement of the wig.

With this magic hair glue of awesomeness, it it worth trying the fluff the hair out to the right like in the source, or is it fine the way it is? Or rather, would it be worth the effort?

Are you implying someone accused me of being nice? Tell me who, and I will make them regret their word with every fiber of their being.

Greg sounds a bit emo there.... XD

If you don't want to read the FAQ I'll just copy pasta here!
HAHAHHAHAH!

Quote :
How 'gentle' do you need to be with styling wigs?
Just
using a comb && being a tad gentler then you'd normally be with
your own hair is fine. Naturally there will be a loss to some extent
while styling/brushing/whatever but it just depends on how gentle you
are. With a thin wig you're obviously going to have to treat it very
gently otherwise you'll get patches.

That
depends on the fiber the wig is made from, most good quality wigs will
take boiling hot water poured on them (for straightening) and can even
be straightened (or blow dried) but I would not recommend attempting to
straighten your wig unless you have red tutorials and have a good
quality straightener and have tested it on a piece of wig you don't
mind potentially getting melted off!

If your wig has been custom
dyed, be careful about using any alcohol based product in it, also
avoid fingering it too much as skin oils can rub the dye out.

It’s
hard to put wigs in hair ties, as I’ve found that the wig gets insanely
knotty by the time you’ve pulled it through the tie a few times, I
recommend using a ribbon (not made of silky material) to tie up wig
hair.
Also remember that the higher you tie the hair of a wig, the
more likely you will see the wig cap, this is just how wigs are
constructed

Quote :
What not to use on a wig;

Any
sort of hairgel that's supposed to be used on 'real' human hair, as the
gel is designed to adhere to the porosity of normal hair and since wigs
don't possess that quality, the gel is pretty much useless and just
messes up the fibres.
Any type of heat, unless it's on a very, very,
very low setting, and even then it's unadvisable. Straightening is
possible without a straightener by using hot water, and there are
plenty of tutorials about that online.
Normal hair dye. i haven't
actually tested this out but i'm fairly sure the chemicals inside
normal hair dyes would just cause the wig fibres to melt. There are
other ways of changing wig colours though, for instance, sharpies.

What to use on a wig;

Hairspray.
Any kind of budget hairspray is fine and is normally what i use, and it
doesn't cost you through the roof. Got2bglued is very good as well,
though i've yet to try it- heard lots of good things though.
Hot water, to straighten should you wish. Cheap!
Wig
detangler. if your wig is longer than shoulder length, you're going to
have problems with keeping it untangled. I'm not sure if you can buy
this in new zealand, but it's possible to purchase it from overseas and
it's very worth having.

Just hang it upside down, spray the heck out of it with random hairspray, and then sort of fluff it about.
XD;;

Um. Might need a little teasing at the roots, but at the very roots. Just to help it stay.
