Normal is boring? By Game42. 11/12/13, 04:00 pm |
| Hopefully I've chosen the least productive time of the year to introduce myself, because I wouldn't want to distract people too much, especially the young and creative. When I walk among normal people I feel so out of place, but when there are cosplayers around I don't feel like such an alien. I feel right at home with fictional and fantastical characters. I feel almost like something from a piece of fiction. It's strange that I'm saying this on the untrustworthy internet where I also blend in because it seems like make-believe. But then again I've never trusted anyone enough with my best secrets and this is the closest I might ever get to relieving the only real burden left in my young life. If the Box Office is any indication then the public is drawn towards superpowers. They can be used to save the world or used for personal purposes. It's going to sound ridiculous but I have what might be the closest a person can realistically get to natural superpowers and I've been doing at least the latter. It isn't something corny or useless; it's quite the opposite. If this is true then the possibilities in the world would seem endless for me. So what on earth am I doing here? Some conventions that cosplayers show up at touch my heart a lot more than most things. The pillars of entertainment there are so symbolic to me. That's where my energy seems to go. I have a feeling that more and more people are finding that there isn't enough time to absorb all the entertainment let alone make time for others in their lives. Maybe there isn't even time to know someone amazing. I'm entertaining the thought of doing something with others but I just don't know what yet. To live in peaceful obscurity forever or to capture imaginations?
I might have the potential to look like a lot of characters and the mindsets to portray so many but, because I'm so introverted and uncomfortable with being stared at, cosplaying might not be for me. But it would be so tempting to finally see what I look like in a proper photo, never mind a grand cosplay one. I almost feel like being the real me isn't far from cosplaying or at least roleplaying at times, except that I'm not playing. It seems as if I barely need to put on a costume or an act, except when passing myself off as a normal person. I think more of my words already sound like they came from a script than from ordinary conversation. I've decided to post at least once here since I figured that there could be some people here who find the normal world a tad boring, not because their lives are dull but in comparison to fiction. I hope I can provide at least some anonymous hope of something more fantastic in this world that isn't confined to just imagination. A missing piece even for those who think they have it all. Perhaps for some the truth can be better than fiction. Even if I'm not destined for cosplay, maybe there's some inspiration in there somewhere.
To Play or not to Play? Manga characters? Mutants? Faeries? Punks? Goths? Cool boys? Schoolgirls? Undead? Mild-mannered humans? Goku? Tarzan? Dracula? Ninjas? Pirates? Princes? Goblins? DroWs? Not Trolls I promIse, Cos the maGic is no iIIusion but I want to livE oN 4ever and I can't turn Back time. If you realise there's no mistake then I hope there's no mistaking what I could be.

| Well that was a lot for me to read at this time of night :) Welcome! About not thinking you are able to be stared at, I have ver bad anxiety issues, but I find when I'm cosplaying, you become the character, you're someone else and not yourself, I'm not sure if it works that way with everyone, but maybe it will work that way for you :) |

| Welcome! If you don't like getting your photo taken, you can always cosplay as a character with a mask! :) I hate being gawked at too, but it always helps to stand in a crowd. |

| You might like to read my reasons for cosplaying. I think that there are many reasons why people like cosplay. http://mystictimesnz.blogspot.co.nz/2013/12/cosplay.html My husband loved roleplaying but then he realized that there are things that you can play and also do in real life. He went to learn fencing and archery.
If you don't like people staring at you you might like to go to events where everyone is cosplaying. I loved the SCA wich is a medieval society that holds events that are not open for the public. Or roleplaying events where you can be in character for a whole weekend or longer. But I don't know if that is done here in NZ. |

| Hi and Welcome!
I get quite shy too so I know how you feel! I think most people can get like that from time to time, especially when meeting new people.
There are actually roleplay events like above where you can roleplay for a weekend or so as a fantasy character. It's not necessarily cosplay as such, rather called LARP (Live action role play). A good website to start for that is http://whatislarp.co.nz/. People in Larp also tend to be really friendly so that helps!

| Thanks for the ideas. A plate of nuts can make you nutty, or crazy, or messed up, or batty, or mad, or full of ideas. Mask. Secret Identity. Maybe Ask. But don't tell. Death's link to Mystic. Black. Dark. Night. Shadow. Mystery. Hatter. Tea goes with Mr E? Or am I riddled with misstAkes? I might fix them when I Return. |

| Apparently I need to post enough here before I can post elsewhere. So here's an idle message written at an idle time in an idle thread on an idle forum in an idle part of the world. Is there anyone just waiting for something really amazing to happen from nothing?
I wish I had something to control time or to allow me to experience multiple lives in different dimensions. I think that I manage time well but I still can't help but think about how much more time or capacity for experience I would need in order to feel like I'm not missing out on things. And there's a time limit for some things. One life and then game over? Hmm back to a solution... |

| Hi game42! I need to post a few times here too!
I've always been fairly self conscious about being stared at when cosplaying too, especially when I was a heavier-set girl. I've found that cosplaying as someone with a similar personality to your own really helps, for example, if you are shy, cosplay as a shy person and if you are really bubbly..well, y'know.
It also helps you get into character and "become that person" so you kinda distract yourself. |
