What sparked your interest in cosplay?

I went to the midnight madness party in Tokyo for my birthday a couple of years back and was my first real dress up.
Before that had always taken an interest in the fashion for photography, film and I did some Manga creative work also. Have quite a few books and magazines going back a few years on gothic and lolita as well as some pattern books. Have not had a lot of time to do personally lately. But hope to have something good for the next time I am back in Tokyo. How about you?

Mind you no one told a good portion of the steampunk community who are over 50. Funnily they mostly seem young or older. Or the medievalists who are mostly my age or older too, with just enough youngsters to keep them on their toes. Or the gamers, ravers, goths, or ...

Saw a great NGE cosplayer who was 39, and a father, in Melbourne. Great costume.

I would have started years ago!

I don't know, call me jaded. But im just getting the impression these days that the only acceptable hobbies in mainstream NZ culture are being a rugby fanatic or drinking yourself to death (or both at the same time)

Nuts to that!

I must give massive props to the Steampunkers for being so age inclusive.
It doesn't seem to matter if your 9 or 90, there will be something you can pull off.

As long as you have a good attitude and known when you need to be age appropriate, I think you can be a member of any group :)

Though they are in a minority there are certainly anime characters with beards, often older characters too.
