usually, cosplaying them involves only a cool t-shirt and a pair
of pants or a skirt, unless you're going for the whole hog and
attempting to get a tiger, or two. all of them have about three
or four different outfits, so it's not hard to find a version of the
kid you want to cosplay that you'll like!

SO YOU WANT TO BE A TROLL? BASIC GUIDELINE TUTORIAL.

Be sure you know what you're getting into before you make a note to cosplay one of these suckers. You're looking at buying a wig, a lot of make up, potentially tights, material for horns, however you're getting the shirt done be it buying from WP or making it yourself.

Also, because we live in New Zealand, we can't get the stuff Americans get. There aren't gonna be a whole lot of NZfriendly tutorials, because overseas sucks all of the butt ):

JUST AS A GENERAL FYI NOTE ^

HORNS
now, it all depends on how you want these to feel and look and what you want to make them out of. there are so many tutorials for horns all over the internet, i couldn't possibly list them all. there are a million different methods. it all comes down to what you're willing to pay, how much time you're willing to put into them, and how you want them to look and feel when you're done. for example, the idea i had for making my terezi horns fell through the night before armageddon, and i quickly made a pair out of a cereal box, masking tape, and i coloured them in with felt tips. and they looked pretty alright, tyvm (i'm obviously gonna make better ones in the future though).

MAKE-UP
god save me now. okay, make-up HERE WE GO.

hanyaan's troll skin tutorial is, in my opinion, the best i have seen. it's easy to understand, she clearly knows what she's doing, and it's really helpful. you'll notice that she uses ben nye cream in her tutorial. when i cosplayed terezi, i used:
minifies' aquacolour. it was actually pretty neat. i got grey, which was actually a little too dark, so i would recommend going for light grey if you decide to get this stuff. it stayed on for ages, didn't rub off too much, and i only ever had to retouch it twice.
minifies' supracolour has also been recommended! according to lumissne, it doesn't streak as bad as aquacolour, and provides more even coverage!

sealants can be found here and also: "you can in fact make setting spray at home. here's the recipe: three parts water to one part glycerin. you can add a wee drop of essential oil (like lavender or chamomile) for a nice scent if you want to. put this in a small bottle with a spray nozzle, ideally one with a fine mist setting." (quoted from lumissne, kendra)
if you don't want to put that dumb stuff all over yo fine arms, there is a lovely alternative here, that involves the use of stockings!

i know that lowkkey has recommended vampfangs for getting teeth from, ~~but you can also grab some from minifies~~ pyro has said that minifies teeth aren't v. good, and don't stay in well.

where you can go to find help from other homestuck cosplayers!

fyeahhomestuckcosplay - good place for looking at other people's cosplays, and seeing how they've rocked the troll look &c.
homestuckcosplayhelp - exactly what it says on the tin. ask them anything.

sweetartsandhellacrafts - a little more on the fun side than the cosplay side, but still helpful and interesting!
the mspa forums are really good, too. it's a whole forum chock-a-block full of homestickers, so don't be afraid to ask for help, or chat with them about cosplay advice!

Just one note, I wouldn't recommend getting teeth from Minifies-- the ones they stock don't set properly and fall out. I speak from experience! =D

Oh, I forgot to mention, later this month I'm going to start making my Davesprite wings-- I'll try and compile a tutorial for people because I'm making the damaged version sooo there could be some interesting stuff happening with my broken one!

Also because this is my third time making feathered wings and so I think I'm finally confident enough to feel like I'm worthy of teaching people this particular skill...

In the glasses tutorial for Terezi, I tried to buy some of those glasses but it seems they can't be shipped to NZ ;n; Maybe I made a mistake but just pointing that out anyway idk |:

There's some other shops on the internet that sell those glasses, if you google 'rimless devil sunglasses' or something similar you can find them. Also, Cosplay Optique can make very accurately shaped custom glasses for Terezi, but their pricing's around 80 USD a pair I think.
