Newbie to forums and cosplay

Hi all,
I'm a super new to this whole cosplay thing, to the point of having to google it to work out all the nuances.
I am keen to go to the Armageddon expo in October, and I see there is a cosplay competition.

I'm keen to get an idea of how hard out everyone goes to see whether or not I'd manage to pull anything off. I have a pretty sweet Padme Amidala costume that I made for a friends 30th, and given all the effort, I think it needs a second outing. Definitely need some tips and hints to get it all the more authentic though, I struggled to find a decent wig, and I don't have enough hair to use my own!

So, I'm from the Waikato, like a bit of crafty, sewing type stuff (when I can motivate myself) and do like a good excuse to get all dressed up.

Welcome, I look forward to seeing you in the cosplay competition :)
For mine, since her hairstyle is unique, I bought a few long blonde wig and I plan on just cutting bits off and sewing them together onto a main wig to get the style, I'll write a thingy in the wig forum when I've finished it.

Hi. Have fun. If you want to go hard out then go for it. It's all up to you.

There is a novice or experienced part to the comp as well, but then no one says you have to enter either. You can just come and enjoy. For questions relating to the comp go to the forums on the Armageddon site and find the email for the judge.

Now if you want to join the 501st imperial legion or the rebel alliance then they have their own standards of authenticity you need to know, which you will need to ask them.

That'd be the Rebel Legion not Alliance ;) If you look up Rebel Alliance it is one thing and in fact if you look up Rebel Alliance in NZ it is something unrelated to Star Wars entirely! I know of the people involved through the big 2000 celebrations funnily enough ;)

Anyway, hello :) There are a few Star Wars costuming fans about the place, in fact I saw your avatar and went Geonosis Padme(!) even before reading your post ;) I may, may, be able to get my Shaak Ti remade into the movie version so it would be fun to see if there is a chance at a Geonosis photo series ;)
