Hey, just thought I'd pop in here and say hi to introduce myself - also, I was pretty much told to by the automated welcome message Wink

I'm a gent from up in sunny Auckland who's been interested in cosplay for a few years (growing up doing theatre helped, I guess) and I thought it'd be cool to hang with some like-minded people while I worked on my first outfits.

Yeah there can be alot of politics involved - kinda the reason I got out of it eventually, but I still really enjoyed it and I guess some part of it stayed with me (hence why I'm here!)

I've got no particular characters in mind yet, but I really like the aesthetic of steampunk/neo-victorian (Last Exile, Steamboy, etc... aspects of Miyazaki) so I'm looking into it... I might just try something original (and small!) first before I have to actually try and emulate anyone though.

After my exams though, of course Smile

And yep Squishy they are, unfortunately not mine though!

I think they'll be the first thing on the list to make - definately the essential costume piece for any self-respecting steam-punker.

Yeah I've been in there and it's pretty eclectic, but I actually have plans to cast and craft my own goggles and brasswork myself which should be interesting/rewarding/challenging/all of the above... It helps having a doorman who's also a blacksmith! :-P

And re: auckgeddon, I have no idea yet, I barely plan a week or two ahead, so it'll be difficult to plan for october! :-P That being said, I do really want to go so I'll probably aim to... I've never been and I've always regretted not having the chance to geek out Smile
