Costume designing basics?

Er yeah, I'm about to enter a costume design competition but the problem is I just realised I don't know the first thing about costume design >>
So does anyone have experience in this area and if you do could you please help? ;A;

I love designing, I have OVER 200 original designs in my Sewing Room Very Happy

If you can't draw free hand, like I can't, then this will be an awesome site:

Then just draw! Do random silhouette and lines, even if you can't make them in real life, draw them Very Happy

A lot of people look at the Character background etc as well and design based off what they believe the Character would be comfortable in.

can't say I have any pro tips, but I guess consider following:

- theme (give the design something to keep it constant)
- situation (whats it for? casual wear? formal? costume?)
- who (who is it made for? adult? teenager? consider how important it is for the model/you(?) to fit their personality)
- functions (if necessary)
- colour theme (you don't want colours clashing, and different colours can give off different vibes)
- and if it's based off a character (say AiW characters) do some research on their backgrounds, look from their point of view of why they would wear the things they wear, or certain items/motifs that symbolise them

but yea, costume designing is REALLY fun~~ so you must show us once you're done 8DD
