Fake Skin?
Post By RegnieRiku. 27/10/10, 09:06 pm

A large portion of the next costume I am making requires skin. The problem is I can't use my skin as the skin required had hooks digging into it to hold on the clothes.
So can anyone suggest something I could use as fake skin. A fabric would be most ideal, but I could work with a wax or wax like substance if it came to it.

That sounds too ideal to be true Razz How about getting it off again? Would it be ruined when removing from the skin?

If you're applying the latex straight on the skin, it will probably rip as you remove it because it will have bonded to the hair on your body everywhere you painted it. If you're making a mold of your face and then making an appliance (a mask, basically), then it might rip a little around the glue wherever you used it. Making an appliance is a REALLY involved process, but it gets amazing results. You can make it with the same liquid latex that you would paint on, so you don't need to bake it (like you would with foam latex).

You can remove it relatively easy using something like spirit gum remover or even sometimes soap or shampoo has worked, and nudging it off with cotton buds :3

If you're going to paint the latex on your entire face, I've heard 'painting' your eyebrows in vegetable oil works for it not bonding to every hair.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the comments so far. I'll have to look into it some more. Mixing paint into it seems easy enough so I shouldn't have a problem concealing the harness that will be under it. I'll just need to work out ways to at least partially take it off, or this cosplay will ned up being 25% done and 75% waiting until the day of the con to paint on Razz
